What is good and what is bad. Too often our heroes turn kill while our villains fight for their lives. Is it necessary that our side is the one that is always right? Is the one who goes against us always wrong?
Even though I try to understand others I still live life based on me. When I meet someone on the street they are a party of my life, in my mind they become whatever I want them to be good, evil, unimportant. If there is someone who acts we base our actions soley on us.
Now the question that rises, what is evil. Is evil and good a given or merely an opinion. I have lived days feeling like a saint and others as an embodiment of Satan. Does that make me good or bad?
A scale seems the obvious choice. An average of acts of good and evil would place you on a position on the scale.
But what if you try to do good but do evil where does that place you? Are you evil cause of what you did or are you good for what you tried to do. What if you don’t even try to do good or evil but aren’t thinking at all and do one or the other?
This is the problem with religion. It oversimplifies things there is no scale of love and hate, good and evil. Things aren’t so simple. There is a whole range to human emotions. We do good and we do evil and that’s just how things are.
Here is an often accepted solution 14 qualities that will place you as good or evil:
Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Lust, Anger, Greed, Sloth are set as bad
Faith, Hope, Charity, Fortitude, Justice, Temperance, Prudence are
But these are still as simplistic as the original view of bad and good. Cant anger at injustice lead to good? What about being envious of an ability to do good? How about charity for a bad cause?
Bottom line I need to stop thinking of myself as good or evil. I am what I am. I can be good or bad for a time but overall I am human just like anyone else.
